Two rooms, one sound
Our founder, Anssi, makes psytrance. He also works with sound in healing sessions. The dancefloor and the healing room run on the same things: rhythm, drone, resonance, space. The tools did not. Studio plug-ins knew nothing of a session that lasts an hour and carries someone into stillness. The healing tools could not sit in a mix.
So we started building instruments that work in both rooms.
The granite room
In Egypt, Anssi stood in the King's Chamber of the Great Pyramid. The acoustics struck him deeply: the granite takes every sound and holds it. What happened in that room was a profound, personal experience, and it stayed.
He came home wanting to stand in that room again, and to let others stand there too. King's Chamber, the reverb, is how.
Seen first, then built
Some of our instruments were seen before they were built. Apex arrived as a vision: a dark pyramid under deep water, sending a shimmering beam from its apex into the cosmos.
We take what we see seriously, and then we do the work. We draw it, model it and listen until the instrument sounds the way the vision felt.
Built on the real thing
A vision is where an instrument starts. Its sound comes from the real thing. King's Chamber is modelled to scale from Petrie's survey. cymaheal's plates are checked against Chladni's own tone tables from 1787. Harmonia Mundi's planets turn at their true relative speeds, and Veil's length sets its note the way a real bore does. Where our model is thinner than we'd like, we say so. Our research notes show how each one is built and what it is checked against.
